SACRIFICE?!?

Linda and I had lunch today with H2 and his friend and police academy fellow student, Kenelly. They are currently taking the driving portion of training which is held in New Orleans East. This gave us the opportunity to go to Vucinovich's for lunch. Remember them, Big J?

Since it is Friday and Lent, we all suffered through a hearty meal of fried catfish and shrimp, shrimp creole, and fries. It was as good as the last time I ate there, probably 11 or 12 years ago!!

LOGAE? (PLURAL OF LOGO?)

From The Deacon's Bench comes THIS humorous take on logos (logae?)(NOT to be confused with LOGOS, the Incarnate Word)!

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD

Today is the Feast of the Annunciation

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.

And coming to her, he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you."

But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."

But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"

And the angel said to her in reply, "The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God."

Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:10 - 13)

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Overheard at lunch today:

"The government that is big enough to give you everything you need is big enough to take everything you have."

Just watch, that's all I'm saying.

"SIN IS GOOD"

Friday, after "doing" the Stations of the Cross at church, I was at MD/DLG's house for dinner... Crawfish etouffe of the MOST EXCELLENT variety!!!! I mentioned that I could only stay a short time as I still had to work on my homily for the weekend. DLG asked, "What are you preacing on?" to which I replied, "I think I'm going to talk about sin." Her response? "Sin is good." Think about it. After a pause, "To talk about, I mean." Hehehe...

I just HAVE to share this, courtesy of The Deacon's Bench

"Stand by Me" performed by musicians around the world from SKAT on Vimeo. Suddeny, at least to me, the world doesn't seem quite as big, and brotherhood takes on a whole new meaning.

Also from the Bench,

and

God bless you as you journey with me through the Lenten season!

A PRAYER REQUEST

Please pray for a friend of mine who had a massive heart attack Tuesday morning and is in critical condition. Pray especially for comfort and peace for his family and that whatever God's will, they feel His presence and love.

Update: My head isn't on straight. I keep thinking that today is Thursday for some reason. My friend's heart attach occurred on Monday morning. A call from family today says he has taken a turn for the worse, so again, please pray for the family.

HAPPY, NO WAIT. NOW? OK. HAPPY BIR... WAIT, NOT YET... OK NOW... HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENNY!!

Let's see... Kenny's birthday was last Wednesday and I tried to post something but couldn't get it to work. So now I'm a week late wishing him a Happy Birthday. But that's ok, 'cause Ellie's cousin got married last weekend so KenEllie were wrapped up in pre-wedding stuff and we didn't get to celebrate his birthday anyway. We're going to do that this week. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KENNY!!!!

Speaking of KenEllie, they're getting ready to move. We're going to miss them. It was really nice having them practically next door. We didn't get to see enough of them even then. I think I was extra sensitive to trying not to seem like a pushy parent, since they were right next door. In retrospect we probably could have just "dropped in" more, but I was trying to let them "live their own lives", so generally waited for an invitation before going over. Oh well, water under the bridge, I guess. Live and learn. Still, we love them heaps and bunches, and will definitely miss them.

H2 qualified at the shooting range last week! He seems to be doing very well at the academy and has made some friends there who he hangs with on weekends. Oddly enough, one of them is named Kenelly, which makes for some confusion, let me tell you.

BB sold 404 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, the most in her Brownie troop, and will receive SEVERAL awards for it! Way to go, BB!!

Ian got 5 A's and 1 B for his exams. Great work!!

Both S2 and H2GF's mom are doing better. Thanks for all your prayers! They DO work, you know.

H1/DIL1 have embarked on a joint venture that will be a bit of a struggle for them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

And oh, yeah. Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Now go drink some green beer or something.

God bless!

OBLIGATORY UPDATE

Just a quick update to keep the wolves at bay...

Still struggling under the workload for my two classes at OLHCC. Saturday was Ecclesiology, for which I had to prepare research notes from two sources, a preliminary outline of the paper, a take home essay, blackboard Q&A, an expository presentation on "The Catholicity of the Catholic Church" by Karl Adam, as well as prepare slides for our group expository presentation that is due this coming Saturday in Trinity/Eschatology. Whew!! Then Yesterday I realized that I had missed a deadline for the blackboard questions for the Trinity/Eschatology class. Ouch!

Friday evening Linda had a bridal shower, then we both had a wedding rehearsal which we thought was at 6PM, followed by Stations of the Cross at 6:30. Turns out the rehearsal was rescheduled for 7PM, following stations, so we didnt' get done until 8:30, almost 9PM!!

Saturday was class, all day, as usual. Although interesting, my presentation was the last thing on the schedule, so naturally I obsessed over THAT all day! I gotta learn to lighten up! After class I had to hurry home to get to the 7 PM wedding. At 7 noone had shown up but the priest and the music minister and many guests. No groom, no bride, no altar servers... Finally at 7:10 one altar server showed up and said the wedding was at 7:30. Another change of plan that we didn't get... Anyway, the wedding got started almost on time, and it, too, finished up at 9 PM. By then Linda and I were pretty much starving, as we hadn't eaten since 11:30, so we decided to go out to IHOP, knowing that they were open late.

Let me tell you, we go to IHOP fairly often, at least once a month, sometimes twice. Being the creature of habit that I am, I always get the same thing, a "country omelette" add mushrooms, a cup of coffee, and a large milk to go with the food. Always. I've gotta tell you, Saturday night I got the absolute BEST meal at any IHOP I've been to in the last couple of years, at least. Bar none!! It was delicious, hot, fresh, quick, just great!! Then, to top it off, KenEllie dropped in to chat while Linda and I finished up. It was a nice ending to a hectic two days.

Tim and Kristen returned from their cruise on Sunday morning, which was also their first wedding anniversary. We picked them up, went with them and KenEllie to Mass at the Center of Jesus the Lord, then on to Central American Restaurant for a FEAST!! Wonderful food. Following that, KenEllie had to get over to her parents to help them with some painting, so we took T & K on a tour of New Orleans, highlighting the left over ravages of Katrina. From there, a stop at Cafe du Monde for beignets, then we dropped them off at the airport for their flight home.

Most of the day Sunday I was feeling a bit under the weather. It worsened overnight, so I stayed home from work yesterday and today. Since I'm beginning to feel almost human again, I decided to update the blog.

So now you know what's been happening with us for the past week or so. Stay tuned. Life just keeps on keeping on!!

Take care and God bless!!

AND CHARLOTTE WAS MEDIA

Charlotte Was Both has become Via Media. I have no doubt that her postings will continue to be thoughtful, insightful, and inspiring, as well as challenging and, to some, probably down right aggravating. If you have not yet done so, please, give her a try.

And, if you want a hearty chuckle, check out this post from DLG's blog. Good stuff!!
